A list of websites where you can find information, news and articles that don’t appear in our mainstream media. Many on-line articles give references for the information in the article. These references link you to other sites – always worth exploring.

  • www.alarabiya.net/english – Al Arabiya News Channel
  • www.aljazeera.com/ – Al Jazeera TV covers the world, with news that rarely appears in British media. Also does very good documentaries
  • www.armscontrol.org/ – Arms Control Association – a non-partisan US think tank
  • www.commondreams.org – set up in 1997 to foster progressive change in America. Good articles and news.
  • www.craigmurray.org.uk – Ex-Ambassador Craig Murray’s blog, analysis of daily news spiced with Craig’s inside knowledge from his diplomatic days
  • www.darpa.mil – US military site, DARPA: Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Scary news on new weapons systems etc.
  • www.democracynow.org – a daily TV/radio news programme, hosted by Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez, airing on over 800 stations, pioneering the largest community media collaboration in the US. Transcripts of latest interviews on the website.
  • www.globalresearch.ca – Canadian website for the the Centre for Research on Globalization (CRG), Director and Editor Professor Michel Chossudovsky. Well researched articles, many with references you can follow up. It covers economics, politics, science (particularly environmental) and current affairs.

  • www.medialens.org – “Media Lens is our response to the unwillingness, or inability, of the mainstream media to tell the truth about the real causes and extent of many of the problems facing us, such as human rights abuses, poverty, pollution and climate change.” One has to subscribe (i.e. register) to this website to get access to all the alerts etc, but it is free. Also recommended is their book Newspeak in the 21st Century.
  • www.middleeastmonitor.org.uk – the Middle East Monitor (MEMO) is an independent media research institution founded in the United Kingdom to foster a fair and accurate coverage in the Western media of Middle Eastern issues and in particular the Palestine Question.
  • www.opendemocracy.net – high quality news analysis, debates and blogs
  • www.rawa.org – Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan. News and articles from the women’s perspective. Also has a good photo gallery.
  • www.thecommonills.blogspot.com – good digest of news from other sources, with comments
  • www.TomDispatch.com – Tom Engelhardt’s website. Tom’s articles get posted on many websites because of their quality. Analysis by other writers also on this site.

  • www.unobserver.com – features articles on international affairs. Editor is an ex-UN journalist.
  • www.uruknet.de – specialises in Middle Eastern affairs, news and commentary. There are a lot of reports from the West Bank and Gaza. Look out for the Military Resistance newsletters by Tom Barton, which features news/reports direct from US soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
