MAW WARNS UK GOVERNMENT: NO MORE MIDDLE EAST BOMBING

The Movement for the Abolition of War has called for an end to bombing in the middle east and accused the UK government of trying to hoodwink the public into a new bombing campaign in Syria.

This follows revelations that British fighter pilots have been secretly bombing Syria under US command despite parliament’s vote two years ago against UK intervention in the country.

It also follows prime minister David Cameron’s announcement on American TV that the UK will support any new action taken by the US.

MAW points out that all previous attempts by the West to promote its interests through military action have only produced chaos and further violence.

MAW demands that the UK government publicly commits to an immediate end to British bombing of Syria.

MAW chair Tim Devereux said: “The British government is intent on signing us up to more vioence despite the fact that bombing has always failed and simply created more chaos.

“The government has shown contempt for democracy by first flouting the clear instruction of our parliament not to get involved in Syria and then by announcing it will do so on American TV.”

“This attempt to push through a policy of dropping bombs on Syria is an attempt to subvert parliament and drag the British people into yet more destruction which will fuel anti-Western feelings and create the conditions for more terrorism and violence in the region and here at home.”
